Virtual Organizations Examples

Virtual organizations are fictitious, yet realistic, organizations created by University of Phoenix. Internet and intranet sites for these organizations include a wide range of information, including confidential or proprietary data that otherwise would be unavailable. Here are examples of how virtual organizations are incorporated into a variety of academic areas at University of Phoenix.

  • Business
The balance sheet of a virtual manufacturing organization may be used to explain key concepts to students in a University of Phoenix accounting class. You may investigate job descriptions and performance reviews as part of a human resources class or program, or check out contracts, planning, organizing, and controlling mechanisms, and polices and procedures while studying management. Students in the global business programs and courses may choose to investigate the operations of a truly global organization. Other business students may sift through all of a virtual organization’s records to create a succession plan for the organization.

  • Education
If you’re a student in an education degree program at University of Phoenix, you may use a virtual school to check test scores in a classroom or discuss learning approaches on children without the concern of violating privacy. Through the virtual school, you may learn how to interact with fellow educators at all skill levels, or how to set up a classroom for optimal learning.

  • Technology
Students in the College of Information Systems and Technology are exposed to real-world technology projects in both individual and group assignments. The assignments usually begin with the examination of a project service request typical of that found in most IT organizations. When completing the project service request assignments, students learn to analyze internal company documentation, propose and design solutions, and depending upon the course, develop the project service request deliverables. Students gain exposure to a variety of technology areas within the virtual organizations including networks, databases and websites.
